Hospice volunteers may provide service in three major areas:

• Participate in ​PATIENT SUPPORT which may include friendly visits, reading to patients, running errands, or writing letters to patients.
• Providing assistance through BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT is another opportunity for you to participate as a volunteer.
• These services may include assisting with grief support groups and coordinating community resources.

An additional area that volunteers provide service is with ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES such as:

typing, filing, and other light office work.

 

The opportunities to provide service as a hospice volunteer are great, and the benefits are even greater. Most volunteers experience a sense of personal reward and growth once they have given their time and compassion to those patients and their families that are facing life-limiting illness, allowing volunteers the privilege of helping those in need.
